Digital nomad visa

For remote workers serving foreign companies from Colombia, or digital entrepreneurs of national interest. No paid work for Colombian entities permitted.

Requirements

  • Passport from visa-exempt country.
  • Foreign employer letter (relationship + pay).
  • Contract or ownership proof.
  • Last 3-month statements (≥ 3 SMMLV monthly).
  • Apostilled & translated documents when applicable.
  • Discretionary additional documents.

Why Colombia is a top destination for digital nomads

Colombia offers time zones aligned with the US and Canada, fast internet, a competitive cost of living and mature remote-work hubs in Medellín, Bogotá, Cali, Cartagena and Santa Marta.

The V Digital Nomad visa lets you stay legally for up to two years while working remotely for companies or clients outside Colombia — no local employer required.

What this visa allows — and what it doesn't

  • Yes: remote work for foreign companies or clients, or running your own digital business.
  • Yes: multiple entries and exits during its validity.
  • Yes: spouse or permanent partner and children as beneficiaries.
  • No: providing services to Colombian companies or holding a local job.
  • No: accruing time toward the Resident (R) visa — it is a V category visa.

Key documents (where most applications fail)

  • Letter from your company or clients certifying remote work and income.
  • Bank statements for the last 3 months proving sufficient income.
  • Health insurance policy covering Colombia for the full requested period.
  • Foreign documents duly apostilled and translated into Spanish.
  • A clear description of the remote project or activity you will carry out.

After approval

Once approved, you must register the visa with Migración Colombia within 15 calendar days and obtain your foreigner ID card. We handle both steps, plus SIRE registration if you rent property.
